Statements about Peace by the Mayor  
The mayor of Hiroshima frequently issues comments and sends messages on behalf of our citizens addressing various issues related to peace and nuclear weapons.
Peace Declaration Updated 
Every year on August 6, the city of Hiroshima holds a Peace Memorial Ceremony to pray for the peaceful repose of the victims, for the abolition of nuclear weapons, and for lasting world peace. During that ceremony, the mayor issues a Peace Declaration directed toward the world at large.
Protest against Nuclear Tests
The city of Hiroshima issues a formal letter of protest against all such tests, including subcritical nuclear tests.

The Mayors for Peace is composed of 1,403 cities around the world.

The World Conference of Mayors for Peace is launching an emergency 4-step campaign to ban nuclear weapons in 2005 and eliminate all such weapons by 2020.
To communicate the A-bomb experience to future generations at an academic level, we feel the need to establish and popularize Hiroshima-Nagasaki Peace Study Courses at colleges and universities around the world. To that end, we are studying course content, course materials, and issues and problems related to popularizing these courses.

Mayor visited China, India, Pakistan, U.S., Russia, U.K. and France to make direct appeals for the abolition of nuclear weapons to those who have a strong impact on government policy and public opinion.
In April 2004, at the UN Headquarters, Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba of Hiroshima attended the Preparatory Committee for the Review Conference of the NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) where he conveyed Hiroshima's desire to abolish nuclear weapons and achieve genuine world peace.
